One of Spring Cottage’s popular features is its garden.
Spring Cottage has been described as a garden with a Yorkshire holiday cottage. And I love that description.
In the warmer months it’s a delightful place for children to play. It’s private and secure so mum and dad can relax that the kids are safe.
Even in the cooler months, it’s a charming feature. The lounge and family room both look onto the garden so it’s always visible. And because it backs onto farmer’s fields there’s no mistaking you’re in the countryside.
We provide a whole host of garden toys from swings, to skittles on the patio, to croquet for the circular lawn (perhaps not with the real rules). To a bat and ball set, skipping ropes and a paddling pool. Oh and there’s also a pop-up play tent, in the shape of a digger. My son (now a big teenager) spent many a happy hour playing in that.
Here’s lovely junior guest Amber enjoying a refreshing ice lolly and as you can see in the background she’s been playing in the paddling pool.
The patio is a favourite spot for grown ups.
Perhaps because it’s the perfect place for a glass of alfresco fizz. And from here the views are onto the garden and the fields behind the cottage. The garden is south facing so you can watch the sun set. Once juniors are in bed, enjoy the tranquillity, only disturbed by bird song. That might sound like a cliche but it’s true!
We have garden swings which are tucked away down by the vegetable patch.
Please help yourself to any fruit or veg when it’s in season. If you want some mint for your new potatoes or thyme to add to your pork dish, then you’ll find the herbs planted in pots by the garden bench. Here I am, smelling the rosemary (I love that scent)!
We also provide a barbeque and two sun loungers. Here I am again, caught in the act of sitting with my feet up! It doesn’t happen very often. And isn’t that the beauty of being on holiday. You can do it as often as you like, without feeling guilty!
Many of our guests are kind enough to weed for us too and water the garden. We welcome that – whatever your age.
Because the garden is south facing the patio can be a sun trap. But we’ve got that covered (literally). There’s a parasol so you can all enjoy your lunch in the shade. And a thermometre on the fence too as we all like to know how hot it is!
If you can drag indoors, a gorgeous holiday cottage is provided for you, with the garden.
