Did you know that Anne Bronte died and is buried in Scarborough? It’s perhaps one of the less well known facts about this seaside town.

With ill health, she visited Scarborough with her sister Charlotte, hoping the fresh sea air would aid her recovery. Sadly that was not the case and she died in 1849 aged only 29.

The Bronte sisters lived in Haworth, Yorkshire and their novels were inspired by the moors they inhabited. Haworth is a place of pilrimage for Bronte fans bu their connection to Scarborough is less well known. Next time you’re in Scarborough, beneath the castle’s walls, overlooking the bay, visit is St Mary’s churchyard and pay your respects to Anne!
