What to do in Dalby Forest
Enter Dalby Forest by road from Thornton le Dale or from Hackness and pay your entrance fee (per car). Walking and cycling trail maps can be picked up from the visitor centre. Trails start from various car parks and here you’ll also find picnic benches, some with barbecue stands. Refreshments can be found at the visitors centre or Dalby Courtyard.
For Mountain Bikers
There are 55 miles of cycle trails, from easy beginner green routes suitable for families to expert black ones, which is perhaps why the Cross Country Mountain Bike World Cup has been held here. A new bike shop is opening in Spring 2018 for bike hire , whether you want to enjoy a relaxing cycle ride on the easy green cycle trails or take on the challenging climbs and tricky decents of the Dalby red trail. The former for me!
For Waymarked Walkers
Waymarked trails start from several of the car parks and are clearly marked. They vary in length and difficulty so whatever your age and ability you can still enjoy exploring Dalby Forest on foot. A popular walk from Low Staindale car park is to visit Bridestones – a series of beautiful sandstone rock formations.
As well as enjoying family friendly walks and nature trails around the forest, there are numerous play parks to keep junior explorers happy. In particular the new play area close to the visitor centre will ensure any excess energy is burnt off. Adderstone Field is home to the popular Enchanted Woodland adventure play area with a fort and carved insects in the trees! Or why not den build?
For Tree Climbers
For the adventurous and those not scared of heights, challenge yourself to Go Ape! tree top adventure. Walk along tree top high wires, cross from tree to tree using ladders, walkways, bridges and tunnels and finish off your adventure with a zip wire ride. All within the beautiful scenery of Dalby Forest. Height restrictions apply but new Tree Top Junior adventure allowing younger family members to take part too.
For Segway Riders
As an alterntive to exploring Dalby Forest on foot or by bike, why not hire an all-terrain Segway. A unique way to tackle to terrain of the forest and great fun for a group of friends or family members.
